Villa Palmiche, Ceiba PR

Come relax and recharge at Villa Palmiche, a 3-acre property nestled on the mountains of eastern Puerto Rico and overlooking blue Caribbean waters.

Villa Palmiche is a private guest suite, with two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a living room and full kitchen. It is located on the second floor, above the owner’s workshop/studio/garage. Comfortable furniture and clear separation of sleeping areas makes this suite ideal for an extended stay overlooking panoramic views of the east coast of Puerto Rico, or a tranquil home base for an adventure-packed weekend.

Sleeping

The blue bedroom features a king bed, matching nightstands with table lamps, a full closet with sliding mirror doors (hangers provided), a full dresser, and en-suite bathroom with shower. The floating bathroom vanity provides plenty of storage underneath. It boasts hand designed and executed mosaic tile work which makes it a unique atmosphere.

The green bedroom features a vestibule with a small work desk with lamp (we think this is more suited to writing the great American novel and less actual work-work) and a pull out sofa futon. A queen bed with a floating wood storage headboard holds individual LED reading lamps, as well as a full closet with sliding mirror doors (hangers provided) and a rocking chair. The en-suite bathroom features a bathtub / shower combo and a floating vanity with storage underneath. Bathroom amenities provided include towels, toilet tissue and toiletries. The green bathroom provides a stunning handcrafted palm tree mosaic.

Both rooms provide two luggage racks each, for those of you lazy buns!

Living Room & Kitchen

The living room features a sofa pull-out futon for additional guests and two arm chairs. A flat screen TV with DVD player is available, and features an HDMI port in case you bring your own media (cable not included).

The kitchen is fully equipped with a Wolf gas range & oven, full size sink, quartz countertops, refrigerator & freezer, and microwave. Bar seating provides a great breakfast spot, or company to the chef over a glass of wine.

Well stocked, the kitchen equipment includes: cooking pots, cooking utensils, knives, flatware, cups and plates. Even a moka pot is included, for your morning coffee. Dish soap & sponge provided. For extended stays, a washer and dryer is available for guest use in the adjacent laundry room.

The View

From the guest suite and the property, the view spans 170 degrees, from Fajardo and the Conquistador Hotel, to the mountainsides of Ceiba, and overlooks  Palomino Island, Isleta Marina island with its two condominiums, Ramos Island, and Culebra Island. On clear days, you can see St. Thomas and Jost Van Dyke behind Culebra. Since this is tropical weather, you are likely to watch a rain shower as it travels east to west, and sometimes catches us. Rain usually is here and gone within 10 minutes, and it is rare to have a rainy day all day.

Environment & Sustainability

There is no air conditioning in the apartment, as there is usually a nice breeze and the apartment design facilitates cross-ventilation (windows are operable). Being 1,000 feet above sea level, daytime temperatures typically range from mid 70’s to mid 80’s. In the winter, we can hit low 70’s at night. For the summer, there are ceiling fans in each of the bedrooms. We also provide comforters and additional blankets as it might get chilly. Remember, 70 degrees for us is cold weather! We ask that you turn off lights and fans when you go out on your adventures, to conserve energy.

Historically, this region has suffered from spotty municipal water and power service; this suite supplements municipal water service with a dedicated rainwater cistern and has a solar hot-water heater. The suite shares the main houses’ electrical system, consisting of solar panels, a battery bank, and backup generator. During the day, the photovoltaic panels generate enough power for consumption and storage; in the evenings, the battery system services the house. If those are depleted, the property switches to municipal power and in case of emergency, to a diesel generator which feeds the batteries (half hour run usually) and shuts off. So you will never be without power or water during your stay.
